Myself serving in a Swedish transnational company for the last 23 years, currently designated as Chief Marketing Officer governing Asia Pacific geolocations. Here is an awe-inspiring piece of my career saga to share with….
As any other MBA professional I had joined the above company as sales officer and shown my dedicated, childlike innocence efforts, absolutely new world for me where one target breeds other, tasting sweet taste of success in the hunt of next success, job pressure not a bad word but counted as a push for motivation. Flying with high hope as miles to go.
By travelling extra mile, several applauds, out of turn promotions poured on my platter oh what a life, roaring on ninth cloud, blue eyed boy or apple of my eye also called as right hand of my boss throughout. HR put me in fact for fast track growth trajectory for leadership succession planning. I was so much engrossed into it that never had a second thought for so called better career alternative or job switch.
But O, wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind? I started encountering company politics, personal bickering, blamed for nepotism and favouritism, Dealt with good pedigree candidates, I’m asking you being promoted consistently in the same company takes hell of guts isn’t it.
I vehemently avoided the calls from recruitment firms and even got into the tenterhooks of head-hunters. To be frank I got all the interview calls from competition brands, never dared to ditch my present company by joining them and people called me stupid, on a personal note I was very much satisfied in my current job, name, fame & money everything at my disposal, compensation was never a challenge for me, drawn first salary of Rs. 3000 and today me board of director in the company. I was getting what I cherished.
Is it that job hopping is a bad thing, is it a sinful act which creates guilt, I can’t be judgmental for it. Why do people look for change to have growth, to get rid of monster boss?
But today I have come to the pyramid or the zenith of my career graph in this company, how can I stop the momentum of my career growth, I have to look for job outside the company and to rise further in my career ladder I have to come out from the cocoon of sales function to delve into business head role which is not possible in this present company.
I do visit leading B-schools as a keynote speaker to address budding professionals and my message to them is simple, devour consistency, have passion for exemplary results and set to fulfill one goal at a time for robust career growth. Because today I proudly say that I grew with the company.
